Headstand Demystified:
A Benefit with Dana Schachter and Skeeter Barker
Headstand, in Sanskrit called Sirsasana, is known as “one of the most important Yogic asanas,” according to Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar. In this 2-hour workshop we will break down the essentialcomponents to creating and maintaining a healthy headstand, offering you a safe, supportive and playful environment in which to approach and practice this pose, the king of asanas. We will explore the key components to a proper foundation and how to use props when needed. Bring your curiousity and sense of adventure as we turn things upside down! This practice will be sure to stimulate you in body, mind, and heart as we aim to give the gift of yoga to the youth of today.
Headstand- Yoga Goes to School is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering schools by providing healthy strategies for students, teachers, and parents. We promote healthy awareness by integrating yoga tools, practice, and concepts into daily school routines. Headstand school programs provide yoga resources to students considered at-risk, with high stress levels, in K-12 schools. Headstand provides access to yoga in the place where these students spend most of their time: school. The Headstand curriculum is school-based and educator friendly. We encourage students to self-reflect and shift behaviors in order to attain personal balance and increase academic achievement. For more information go to www.headstand.org.

Breath of Life
Breath is one of the most essential functions of the body. Each breath provides vital oxygen to all the cells of our bodies carrying with it Prana, enlivening all aspects of our being. By actively engaging our breath we say Yes! to life and affirm our desire to live well.
In this 2 1/2 hour workshop we will use asana to open the body, creating an invitation for breath to enter and then learn how to receive and dance with it. We will examine habitual patterns of breathing and how we can embrace life more fully through various pranayama practices. Specific pranayama practices such as viloma, ujjayi, and nadi sodhana will be looked at in greater detail. This class provides a great foundation to lauch a pranayama practice of your own. Come enhance the quality of your life through conscious breathing!
